Pros
- You are in control of your care, including choosing your therapist, length of treatment, etc.
- Increased privacy and confidentiality (except for limits of confidentiality).
- You can receive services without having a mental health diagnosis in your medical record.
- We can address issues that are important to you that aren’t billable by insurance.
Cons
- You may not be able to afford the cost of self pay sessions, or may have to be seen less frequently due to financial constraints.
pros/cons of using insurance
Pros
- Increased convenience and affordability makes therapy more accessible.
Cons
- You will receive a mental health diagnosis that goes in your medical record.
- Some diagnoses are not eligible for reimbursement (i.e.: marriage/couples therapy).
- In the event of denial of payment, you will be responsible for the full cost of services provided.
- If insurance is requesting additional information, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
- You may have a deductible that needs to be met before the insurance company will cover any costs.
